A lyrical story about a terribly businesslike girl who knows exactly what she wants from life and from every person she meets along the way. An excellent start, the viewer is drawn into the action right from the entertainingly executed opening credits. Of course, hints and direct clues in the lyrics of the song make it clear that things will not turn out quite as perfectly planned.
Excellent characters, wonderful colors, and not just Scotland, but the unique Gaelic islands. Even in black and white, it looks remarkable: ancient castle walls guarded by a curse, cozy rooms in houses, shining landscapes, and, of course, the catch and the reason—the wayward, capricious, and menacing sea. It's amazing how in the mid-1940s they filmed scenes at sea, specifically in a storm and in a whirlpool—it really makes you feel uneasy!
An incredibly sweet story, both funny and emotional, with polished dialogue—in short, top notch!
