Wrong Turn 4K 2003

‘Wrong Turn’ is one of the few intelligent horror films about people encountering a family of bloodthirsty mutant cannibals. There are already many films in this genre, but very few that don't descend into trashy, senseless violence. ‘Wrong Turn’ is good in the sense that there is no place for continuous slaughter, where a family of maniacs incessantly chops up completely helpless and confused ‘city’ guests. This is a rare case where there is even room for a certain romance between the two main characters and their conscious desire to survive at all costs. And the disgusting cannibals must get what they deserve, whatever their nature may be.

The first thing that pleases is that the film is quite unpredictable. Even the first collision with the main character's car can make you jump in your seat. And the runs through the night forest surprise with their ingenuity and sound reasoning, if not by the screenwriters, then certainly by the director. In ordinary horror movies, the victim runs away from the maniac in a straight line, and God forbid she run into the forest. There, they immediately catch up with them behind the first tree, from behind which they can't see anything. In Wrong Turn, the most spectacular and memorable scenes are the hide-and-seek games in the trees (!) from cannibals, one of whom is a master archer with terrifying homemade arrows. In general, the cannibals here are quite realistic and their actions are quite understandable.

In addition, the confrontation with the monsters by the pretty Eliza Dushku and finally a non-‘ragamuffin’ actor Desmond Harrington is much more interesting and believable than watching their hysterical and ‘dead’ copies in similar films. And the romance here is on point and doesn't seem forced or out of place. Since it doesn't last very long, and then a very realistic and brutal massacre continues with bows, axes, gasoline, and barbed wire. At the same time, Wrong Turn flies by very quickly due to its modest length and action-packed nature. Nothing superfluous, everything is extremely harsh and fast-paced — that's what a great horror movie needs in order not to get boring in the first half hour and even impress.
