Suddenly in the Dark 4K 1981

This remarkable film consists of two main elements: on the one hand, it attempts to utilize all the contemporary (for that time) features of Western horror films, and on the other, it is based on the classic Korean story of a maid who gradually drives the wife out of the house.

Regarding European horror films: this film contains dozens of references to films of that era. Among the most famous are The Birds, The Shining (which came out a year earlier, surprisingly), Suspiria (in general, as far as I understand, the director tries to use tones in the frame similar to those used by Argento, except for the blood), and many, many others.

As for the plot with the maid, which originates from The Woman on Fire (which is also referenced in the film), it consists of a maid being hired for one reason or another, who turns the lives of the household into hell; only the wife figures it out, while the husband either cheats on his wife, doesn't understand anything, or is completely bewitched by some kind of magic (depending on the interpretation, of which there are quite a few in Korean cinema - Korean directors still regularly shoot their own variations on ‘servants’). This film uses a mystical version in which the maid is literally possessed by the spirit of an evil shaman who haunts the main character even after the maid's death; i.e., it offers one of the most pessimistic interpretations.

At the same time, the film is excellently shot, with very rich colors, very beautiful actresses, and wonderfully emphasized
