I first watched this film 15 years ago, and then again quite recently, and yet I liked it even more the second time around, even though I don't know why—the plot is linear to the point of absurdity, there are no special effects, the dialogue is primitive, etc. But the film grabs you and doesn't let go until the very end, primarily due to the stunning performances of the actors. Of course, I would like to mention Rutger Hauer, whose charisma has more than once saved films from the “unwatchable” category. The atmosphere of a post-apocalyptic future, where humanity has no concept of morality, is also well conveyed. And the main idea is that if you really want to achieve your goal, you have to give it your all, and only then will you achieve it.
All in all, this is one of the best post-apocalyptic films on a sporting theme with a moral undertone.
