“Owaranai uta wo ita wo...”—Son’s cheerful little voice kept humming that tune loudly in my head for the next 24 hours after watching “Linda Linda Linda,” which really lifted my spirits.
The soundtrack alone makes this movie worth watching. I didn’t find the plot naive or contrived; everything felt quite realistic. The “slice-of-life” genre itself is a delight with its simplicity, ordinariness, and, to some extent, the carefree harmony that permeates the entire film. The everyday lives of teenagers are portrayed magnificently—without any “artificial elements”; there are absolutely no grand speeches, deep philosophical musings, or hidden moral lessons. Just as being a teenager should be: with a head full of wild ideas, first love, and dreams that come true in one’s sleep. I especially want to highlight the actresses who played the lead roles as schoolgirls—they were so believable that at times it seemed to me they hadn’t memorized their lines, but that it was all just happening naturally, and they were improvising to some extent. Overall, “Linda Linda Linda” leaves a positive impression, and it’s simply impossible to watch the entire film without smiling.
