I watched this movie by chance - I was looking for 'The Proposal' with Sandra Bullock of the same name and found a completely different one. Since there was nothing to do, I decided to watch it and in a week I watched it three times.
The film hits the perception from all sides. The script is full of the strongest dialogues and aphorisms, the editing twisting of sometimes incompatible things (like a brutal torture and a burglar who heartily hits the notes) so that they merge into one, the perfect casting and the incredible Nick Cave music, as if specially made for the Australian countryside... though maybe it really was written for them.
The story told in the film is not meant to shock or teach you anything, it is, as Oscar Wilde said, as useless as all art. It's a movie that gives you goosebumps with actors whose faces you certainly won't forget now; it's a movie you'll sit and stare at the credits for a long time after watching it.
In my opinion, this is Guy Pearce's best role. Nolanoff's 'Remember' moved into second place.
Honestly, I'm now waiting with bated breath for 'The Road' by the same director. If it's on the same level, I'm in danger of becoming an ardent fanatic about John Hillcoat
