In my opinion, Raging Bull is one of the best biographical films ever made. The film came out long before the general boom for such films, which, especially in the last ten years, are coming out in packs, so it has its own look and charm.
The black-and-white picture just exactly conveys, La Motte's life, and hides all the horrors of boxers' makeup, during those moments of fights that were included in the film. The fights, by the way, are shown very brutal or just because Scorsese decided to bet on it, that everything in the ring is given hard.
This Scorsese film is not much different from other biopics, except that it was released earlier, and other directors could find and borrow for themselves a certain construction detail called the genre - biography. In principle, this genre is monotonous, you just have to show: how the hero was born, found a profession through which he became famous and a love line, not necessarily happy, but real. But the main thing is the drama of the hero, otherwise his fate is of no interest to anyone, especially to film-makers.
And who else but Robert De Niro could show the drama of La Motte's life, one of the best actors of all times perfectly reincarnated in the great boxer, he could not have it any other way, he was still working for his name, at a stage when the name works for the actor, not everybody can lay out so much, and De Niro is no exception.
Also, as always, Joe Pesci is good in his role. Not at all lost on an actor like De Niro and here, just like in "Casino" or "Goodfellas," is a great addition to the film's cast.
Can there be bad movies from Scorsese? Perhaps they have, but certainly not here.
