The film is very hectic. It's tense, it's dragging, it's dynamic, it's measured, it's chilling, it's sizzling. The director manages to create on the screen the atmosphere of some wrong, altered world, which appears in the lives of the characters after their return from the other world.
The cast is outstanding, and everyone, on the whole, looks great, each in his role. We liked the competent camerawork, and it is especially impressive to see the visions of the main characters at the moment of their death. Joel Schumacher's skilled directorial hand is also noticeable.
The movie intrigues with the idea of the eternal search for life after death. The plot is unusual, at times bizarre and at times creepy. The logic of what happens is revealed gradually, which allows you not to lose interest in the film while watching it. I would venture to guess that the plot is somewhat allegorical and carries a certain moral. Ultimately, the film touches on the motif of repentance, forgiveness and redemption.
The film is full of psychology and has a certain philosophy of life, just like some of Schumacher's other films, for example, 'I've Had Enough' (1993) and 'Phone Box' (2002). In my opinion, one of the director's best films.
