If you haven't seen "Platoon," you don't know anything about directors like Oliver Stone, who, coming into cinema after the trenches of the Vietnam War, didn't make incredibly pathetic and, at times, cheesy movies.
You haven't seen "Platoon"? Oh, you haven't seen one of the most realistic and truthful films about the Vietnam War, a war where there were no right and wrong, where everyone was a murderer...
You didn't see a young Charlie Sheen in his strongest and best role and Tom Berenger, who I could never see in positive roles again after Platoon. You haven't seen LIFE in war, for that horror is also part of life. You haven't heard the beautiful music that brings tears to your eyes: you haven't seen much if you haven't seen this genius film.
"Platoon" is a world-class masterpiece, a movie you can't watch just for fun, a movie for the ages. This film gives answers to many questions: who is a hero and who is a scoundrel? what is war? what is the price of peace? who is right and who is wrong? why did the Americans lose? etc. This movie is a MUST-see.
And it also makes me feel very sorry for Charlie Sheen after the movie - what an incredible talent unfolded in this guy! What kind of movies he could make, what kind of roles he could play. Alas, "Platoon" was probably his highest achievement, and after "Hotheads" he hasn't acted in anything really worthwhile for 10 years.
