All the Full Moon Entertainment movies I've seen so far are terrible. They are unbearably boring, the horror movies are not scary. In short, disgusting. Watching "Lord of the Dolls" I almost fell asleep, only the first 30 minutes were interesting. In "Lord of the Dolls 2" was much worse. I wondered if "Lord of the Dolls 3" was better. Oddly enough, better.
So here we have David DeCoteau's Lord of the Dolls 3: Revenge of Toulon. DeKoto made a bad impression on me with his "Brotherhood." When I found out he was also a puppet director, I even wondered if I should turn the movie off. But that would have been wrong.
The film follows the adventures of Andrea Toulon, the same puppeteer around whom the previous series revolved. There's a war going on, Nazis are around, and the famous puppeteer has to carefully conceal the secret of his village friends. Of course, the evil uncles find out that the puppets do move themselves and the hunt begins for Toulon. He will hide, meet a boy who will be his assistant, and the dolls will all kill and kill...
Compared to the previous series, "Lord of the Dolls 3" is a masterpiece, just a breakthrough by Full Moon. Charles Band must have racked his brains to write such a script. And really, the movie isn't all that boring. Sure, it sometimes gives off that nerdiness of the first few episodes, but that passes quickly. The movie is short at only 82 minutes, so as soon as you get seriously bored, that's when the movie ends. By the way, you can watch it without knowing what the first parts were about, because there are no references. If, for example, you change the name of the puppeteer and change the puppets themselves, you could safely pass it off as a separate movie.
All in all, not a bad classic horror movie. The funny puppets kill rather rarely, and the nerdiness in the film, though diminished, is still boring at times. You won't see it again, but it'll do for an evening. If you are a fan of such movies of course. I liked the movie, but it is far from good.
