The most overrated movie I've ever seen. Everything seems fine: the filming, the music, the acting, but where the hell is the movie? The brilliant idea to film one child growing up over the course of 12 years turns out to be the most boring alternation of clichéd scenes. For example, 'The Tree of Life', for all its pretentiousness and cheesiness, was full of philosophical subtexts and constant metaphors, it had a message for the viewer, while 'Adolescence' has nothing of the kind, it is an empty, cold and, unfortunately, meaningless imitation of a film.
Perhaps Linklater has played at being a genius and forgotten about the most important thing of all - the script. I don't remember so many empty scenes - forced plugs - created more to artificially increase the timing of the film. The story, conceived as an ode to life, in fact came out absolutely empty and, oddly enough, lifeless. Maybe it's the way of life - maybe it's not so interesting for a Russian person to watch the life of an American family? But after all, there are dozens of films about American villages that really touch a nerve. For example, 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape? But that's not the case here.
Clearly, a movie like this will be showered with Globes and Oscars. If Linklater hadn't decided to make the movie for 12 years, there wouldn't have been half the hype that's now reigning around 'Adolescence.' But Linklater made up his mind, and now he's in the dumps.
