The country of Italy has always amazed me with its amazing skills in cinematography. Italian directors managed to leave their remarkable mark in the history of slasher movies, releasing such films as ' Nightmares of a Sick Brain ', ' Bay of Blood ', ' Eyes Wide Shut ', ' Aquarius ' and others. The first movie on the above list is the one I will review today.
Before viewing it may seem that the movie ' Nightmares of a Sick Brain ' is a typical, many forgotten representative of its subgenre. But do not underestimate this movie.
What does the script say? ' A young boy is caught having sex with his father and his mistress. Shocked, the child kills them both with an axe. And consequently, he ended up in a mental institution for a long time. Many years later, as a mature man, he was released from the asylum. But it was not to be - the psychopath again took up the old business ... ' - the script is as simple as a clear sky. However, it was realized in a rather unusual way.
You probably thought that the first shot will show the brutal murder of the boy's father and his mistress, but no. Initially, the viewer will be presented with a scene where the maniac will have bloody and creepy dreams and memories. And this is already quite an extraordinary horse, right?)
Speaking in general, all the murders are performed with inhuman sadism. Not only adults will be killed, but also underage children.
The actor for the role of a crazy psychopath was picked up right in tune. Skinny, looking so fragile, with shining eyes and a sick expression on his face - the perfect image. He even sometimes evoked compassion.
For me it was a complete surprise that it was a little boy who would fight this unstable maniac. Frankly speaking, I was very worried for him. The little boy gave a decent response to the madman!
The last fifteen minutes can scare you. I was also pleasantly pleased with the unnatural atmosphere in the movie.
A worthy example of its subgenre!
