Brahms. A little 8-year-old boy for whom an elderly couple hires a nanny named Greta (Lauren Cohen).Ordinary seems to be the case, however, Brahms is special. No, strange, which is the word that will characterize him later. The fact is that Brahms is a porcelain doll, the height of an 8-year-old child and very similar to the one depicted in the family portrait in the mansion of the Hellshair couple.

Initially skeptical about her job of surrounding the doll with care, Greta soon regrets not following the simple rules left by Brahms' parents before they left.

Do not let out on the street, do not cover his face, do not leave him alone... There are not many rules - only ten or a little more, but the girl will break a few, after which her night dreams will cease to be calm and serene....

What distinguishes horror movies, where the main antagonist is a doll, is a ringing fear in the silence. In the frame you see sitting on the bed puppet, puppet or something like that, and already becomes uncomfortable, because you can not even imagine what THIS will do in the next moment - wink at you, turn his head or you hear a gushing, growing into manic laughter. Silent movement of an inanimate being can also bring you to a state of stupor. You blink and it is already one step closer to you.

“Puppet” is one of those. What immediately comes to mind is “Dead Silence” - another relatively recent horror movie about a killer doll. So, the seemingly banal techniques used in horror movies - one heroine in an empty house, climbs where you should not climb, sudden calls, rustles and sounds in “Doll” take a new shade. Though you prepare in advance for the meeting with the damn doll, you still can't imagine what may happen in the next moment.

The film is peppered with an eerie atmosphere of loneliness: a detached house, no neighbors, no communication with the outside world, and if help arrives, it is not even the next day. In such an environment it is not difficult to fall into a hysterical state, because the constant rustles that Greta hears, the voices and behavior of Brahms can shake even the strongest nerves. One of the most atmospheric episodes were the shots with the disappearance in the kitchen and the moment with Brahms and the list of rules lying next to him - look and you'll see what I'm talking about.

The ending was intriguing. I'll admit it. From the moment when the mirror bursts, all the information about Brahms that had been formed before will disappear, because William Brent Bell has prepared a very unusual surprise for the viewer.

I think this movie deserves such a high rating. And with certainty I can call the movie starring Laura Cohen one of the most tense and scary for the last couple of years. Already after watching it, one can reflect on the reasons of Brahms' parents, which prompted them to take such an extraordinary step. This aspect leaves a pleasant aftertaste. When you leave the hall you don't spit and forget about the picture after a couple of minutes, but continue to think about the story that took place in the old country house....
