Body Double 4K 1984

Immediately upon its release, “Fake Body” was not a great success: critics trashed the movie, praising only the charming Melanie Griffith as a porn star. However, the recently deceased Roger Ebert saw the value of the picture, rating it three and a half out of four. Well, later the aesthetic, musical and architectural aspects of “Framed Body” became widely recognized and savored (maybe someone remembers Patrick Bateman jerking off to the scene with a drill?), as it often happened with films from the category of “suspense”. The Hindus made a remake. So you wonder what's the matter: either the viewer finally realized the beauty of it, or against the background of more and more lame slag pouring from the screen, the old stuff began to seem not so bad.

I wouldn't call “Framed Body” inherently bad, though. The story is really interesting and ambiguous, and Melanie Griffith and Deborah Shelton are delightful in both talent and looks. Who spoils the raspberry is Craig Wasson - both himself and his character. Unsurprisingly, his career hasn't strayed far from the low-budget vampire thrash shown in De Palma's. Jake pisses you off a lot with his feminine hysterical character and inarticulate portrayal of claustrophobia, plus he's constantly flashing on the screen, and you don't get a moral break from him. The only scenes that give you a chance to relax are the ones with the presence of the half-naked beauty Gloria - thanks to Brian for that.

Of course, the main reason that made me watch the movie with interest is the clever twists and turns of the plot, which even after the final credits leave a question or two. Before us is not a detective in the usual sense of the word, but an independent investigation of a man involved in something strange. Although I prefer giants of thought like Poirot or Holmes, I can't help but appreciate the excellent idea of the director and the screenwriter. Jake's attempts to get to the truth are curious to follow - even though I strongly dislike the character himself. It's probably a very significant contribution to the “Framed Body” pluses and an acknowledgment of De Palma's talent. Perhaps his favorite film for me will still be “Carrie”, but it was a pleasure to look at this work as well.
