Judging by the past bitter experience of low-budget movies with Nicolas Cage, I was almost sure that I was going to see a post-apocalyptic thriller. How wrong I was.
- Creepy creatures resembling a hybrid of a human and a cockroach - it's something! Mutants, able to give a head start to the creatures from “A Quiet Place”, in sophistication of execution inferior only to xenomorphs.
- Well thought out and elaborated horror scenes, sometimes it was a little scary. A lot of very dangerous moments, where for the characters are worried.
- The main characters are infantile enough for people born in the post-apocalypse, and it is shown correctly.
- There is even a touching love line, but in passing, and the plot does not dwell on it.
- The actors are playing without naïveté, there is no falseness.
- The whole movie the heroes are trying to survive in this new scary world, inhabited by the brats that should have lived in the forest from the movie “The Mysterious Forest”. These are the kind of things that should have lived there! We finally got to see them.
As a result: an excellent horror with a well aged Nicolas Cage, a great post-apocalypse for connoisseurs of the genre, for those who like to shake under a blanket or watch a movie “with one eye”. No matter what anyone says, I think the movie is of a very high standard. The creators of the movie did a great job.
