The plot of the tape set up for at least an interesting movie. Director - Olivier Marshall, in his time 'shot' powerful police drama 'Gangsters'. The acting trio - Otey, Depardieu and Golino - professionals of international repute. But I didn't even expect that the movie would turn out to be so exciting, high-tech and tense.
Everything is amazing, from the actors (especially Depardieu) to the realistic way of filming (like Mann in 'The Clash', Marshall recorded the sound of gunshots and used real ammunition).
Speaking of 'The Clash'. 'Waterfront' has quite a lot in common with Mann's picture besides realism and brilliant acting. Namely - a psychological duel between the main characters. But if in the masterpiece of the American it was about the duel of a robber and a cop, that is, representatives of different castes, then in Marshall's movie - both heroes are policemen. Except that one of them is the last bastard, and the other is a man whose friend you would like to be.
The reason for their mutual antipathy is as old as the world - a woman. She has already made her choice, which naturally much upset one of the admirers. It is noteworthy that Olivier departed from the usual development of such a plot (speaking of the plot, it should be added that it contains a considerable number of dashingly twisted turns), the woman here is only an excuse, an opportunity to trample in the mud rival. To make him practically a dead man, leaving him without hope.
In general, this is a movie that you just have to watch. That would not forget what a first-class police drama should be.
