The last 14 episodes of the series “Twin Peaks” (not counting the last one) were already filmed without David Lynch's participation, because of this the series lost all its “mystical” zest and became horribly dumbed down.....
But Lynch did well, he shot the final 29th episode, and how he shot it, it is the most mystical, mysterious, scary and the best episode of the whole series. Lynch (and his friends Mark Frost and others) decided to add more mysticism and shot the series almost entirely in the “red room.
Everyone was waiting for a logical season 3, but it was never filmed, instead Lynch made a prequel movie! From the first viewing you are unlikely to understand many of the mysterious moments, the movie is very complex and is not intended for the average viewer, it is pure alternative, Lynch's signature movie.
I believe that, by and large, the movie turned out even better than the series as a whole, Lynch has never made such a mysterious-hallucinogenic movie. And the final scene is, to me, the best scene Lynch has ever filmed!
I personally think that it is his best movie after “Blue Velvet” and “Eraserhead”, and all the scenes in the room are just unique, and in general the room has always been Lynch's most brilliant idea, more genius surrealism just can't be invented.
The movie and the series are very different, but the movie is Lynch 100%! The movie is very difficult to perceive, but it is a masterpiece with a solid five, you just have to get into it, and from the first viewing it is unlikely to succeed.
