A movie about how easy it is to lose everything, regain and lose again, about how much chance plays in life.
Edouard, formerly a rich and famous pianist, who had a wife and the admiration of women, loses everything and becomes a little man Charlet, playing cheap songs in a bar. He ekes out a poor but fairly stable existence until his brother gets involved with gangsters. Charlet, his girlfriend and his younger brother begin to be harassed, and the story has an unhappy ending.
Despite the criminal plot, the movie is light in French, the characters who know each other for five minutes, communicate like old buddies, kidnappers and kidnapped joking and laughing. Though calling the movie a great example of a crime drama or film noir is hardly possible. It's really a parody of the films of these genres that were so popular before. Though the aesthetics of the movie and its look are quite appropriate. Wonderful dialogues.
A good, meaningful movie.
