So, an idiot's dream has come true. Now every man can buy or even rent a doll that will not only sleep with you, take care of you and cook you food, but even love you. You don't need to look somehow, be witty, spend money on dates, all you have to do is push a button, sit across the table and there you are already loved for the rest of your life.
But is that enough? Or can you use your doll for some additional purpose outside of the manual?
We live in a critical time. Artificial intelligence is already here, and it's being prescribed wonders that the AI itself doesn't even realize and probably won't. And while I always thought that AI would perform tasks that are beyond the reach of humans, for some unknown reason its use has become more and more advanced in areas that for millennia have been considered the prerogative of our own kind.
Here, in the movie Companion, he's in the business of helping mediocrities feel great instead of opening up new horizons for humanity.
It's hard to say what exactly the creators wanted to convey to us. As usual, the moral is again lumped in bad people and good robots, which we remember from Blade Runner.
But well, maybe that's just the way it is.
