I came across a videotape of this movie quite by accident and I was very confused by the title of the movie - it looked like a horror movie. After watching it, I realized that a movie, like a book, cannot be judged by its cover. I think that the main thing of this movie is the dialogs. There is some action here, but compared to classic action movies, it is negligibly little.
The cast is simply amazing. Andy Garcia gives his best performance as the main character, but compared to Trit Williams' Bill ‘Poised’, he looks weaker. I especially liked the moment when Williams' character was at the funeral home mutilating a corpse as a punching bag, while claiming to have known the man (He was still a scumbag). The famous Doc from ‘Back to the Future’ here plays the most experienced of their company, who lived a decent life and was not afraid to look death in the eye. Steve Buscemi's ‘Mr. S’ performed very peculiarly, for during the whole movie he uttered only three phrases, which did not spoil his role at all. Christopher Walken repeated his role of the godfather of the mafia and, despite the wheelchair, he looked very impressive. The love line has a place thanks to actress Gabrielle Anwar - the skinny girl also contributed to the basket of common endeavors. I have one favorite moment in this movie, when Jimi 'The Saint' is talking to his girlfriend:
'-What's so special about me that you're interested in me?
- Well, you're so unusual, you're so brave, you do the right thing... and actually... you have a nice ass.
The fact that this movie failed at the box office is completely irrelevant to me, I will always consider it one of the best.
