Kill List 4K 2011

I constantly follow the latest genre releases coming out of the UK, and Kill List was a must-see, given that it received rave reviews from a number of foreign film publications. I must say that I cannot agree with such unconditional love for this film—despite all its atmosphere and harshness, the script leaves a feeling of secondary importance in everything—the same ending is done in the best traditions of The Wicker Man. The emphasis in the script is, in my opinion, rather strange - we are asked to empathize with a man who is so cruel to those around him, who commits such atrocities that it makes your hair stand on end. The camera calmly captures these acts of human cruelty, and the truly shocking ending fails to achieve its goal—you simply don't feel for the character, but perceive it as a given, a punishment for previous deeds. The film turned out to be truly scary, creepy, and unpleasant. The division of the script into several parts is particularly successful, as is the way the author combined scenes of family interaction with the performance of tasks for a mysterious client with whom a contract has been concluded—the contrast is extraordinary! It seemed all the time that his wife and son would soon become the next victims.

One way or another, the film is impressive, leaving behind a rather unpleasant feeling of total darkness, hopelessness, and other unpleasant things.

Conclusion: An atmospheric and harsh thriller, not very original in terms of the script, but successful in everything else—from the acting to the directing.
