This is a story about guys who romanticized the gangster world and the life of gangsters, especially Owen Wilson's character. But he doesn't have what it takes to be a professional gangster, so he has to dream and keep making the same mistakes, considering himself a loser. But is being a loser in the gangster business a bad thing or a good thing?
This question is the main theme of the film.
The moral of the film can be summed up in one expression, which sounds something like this: “Everyone in our class bullies one nerd, except me. I can't do it, I feel sorry for him. That's why I'm a loser.”
A touching, intelligent, and funny film, the first feature film by the excellent director Wes Anderson, and as always in his films, with an excellent, almost genius ending.
Incidentally, Martin Scorsese included Bottle Rocket in his list of the ten best films of the 1990s.
