The Mirror Crack'd is an excellent detective film by director Guy Hamilton. The director, who has made so many wonderful, fast-paced films, this time turned to the detective genre, and what a genre it is! A detective story written by Agatha Christie herself. He attracted a truly stellar cast for his production, with an overwhelming number of stars. And this move paid off completely, as Hamilton created a magnificent film in which the intrigue is maintained until the very end.
The action of the film takes place in a small English village far from the hustle and bustle of city life. Here, everyone knows each other. The village is expecting the arrival of movie stars, who are coming to star in a film by a famous director. As befits a film with a detective background, soon at one of the receptions timed to coincide with the filming of the picture, one of the women living here, who was invited to the celebration, dies. It later turns out that she was poisoned, and an inspector, who is Miss Marple's nephew, arrives to investigate the murder.
As you watch this interesting film, suspicion will fall on one person after another. The director masterfully casts suspicion on one person after another, manipulating the viewer. All events unfold against the backdrop of picturesque views of an English village and its surroundings. The cinematography in this regard is exquisite. Visually, everything is shown simply superbly.
The investigation will take place to the wonderful music written by John Cameron. This jazzy, very light melody with a saxophone solo gives the film a touch of romance and mystery.
The acting is magical, as it should be with such a cast. Angela Lansbury, Geraldine Chaplin, Tony Curtis, Edward Fox, Rock Hudson, Kim Novak, and the inimitable Elizabeth Taylor. Just listing these names is enough to thrill and delight true film buffs.
Personally, I haven't read this work by Agatha Christie, so I couldn't guess who the murderer was. But when I found out, I was completely surprised by the ending! Overall, the ending of the film was a pleasant surprise. The film turned out to be very sophisticated, I would say a classic and aristocratic production.
If you want to watch an interesting detective film with a large number of movie stars from the past, a well-written plot, and an unexpected ending, then this is the film for you.
