An excellent film for the whole family—on the one hand, it is so sweet and childlike, and on the other, it is very profound and wise. As a child, after watching this film, I understood a lot about the world around me. I realized that you can achieve anything you want in life, as long as you have the desire to do so; I realized that you need to preserve the honor of your loved ones and yourself, even if you are a “piglet,” and, of course, set big goals for yourself, despite those who do not believe in you.
This film became one of the best in James Cromwell's outstanding acting career. He played a wise man who, on the one hand, believed in his own strength and the strength of the four-legged baby. He put his authority at risk not just to win, but to prove to himself that he was not mistaken about this little piglet. He is not as simple a man as we see him at the beginning of the film. The viewer sees him as an ordinary “country bumpkin,” but closer to the middle, he reveals a new side of himself. At heart, he is a child who believes in fairy tales, and his actions at the end of the film are striking.
This film will probably only seem funny to children, while adults will only smile at a couple of scenes. The film is vivid and was nominated for several Oscars - it's nice that it was so highly rated, as it is well deserving. The film is sometimes sad, sometimes funny, and carries an almost philosophical idea of the equality of all beings, whoever they may be. It is a very life-affirming film on the level of Forrest Gump and Groundhog Day.
