This movie really got me thinking about life and made me want to write about it right away (i.e., leave a comment). I liked the movie at first, but then I got a little tired of all the relationship drama. But once it got to the middle and the climax, the movie really came into its own—everything went exactly as planned, just like the script.
And the screenwriter and director—John Singleton himself—did a great job with the film, because who better than him to portray the social and everyday lives of Black men, their families, and the relationships between them.
Well, so I suppose I’ll go back to where I started, where I wrote that the film made me think even more about life after watching it, and that’s true—this film is very instructive, and it doesn’t matter that it features Black actors and depicts their lives; you might think that their culture is shown in all its glory—no, you’re mistaken! The director wanted to show people’s social lives in general, their hardships and joys; it’s just that these actors were closer to him!
That’s why the film reminded me of my own life in some ways; it turned out to be more of a lesson than some kind of crime flick or cliché! It shows how you need to learn from others’ mistakes so you don’t make them yourself later, because it’s also about your family and loved ones! That’s what the director of this film managed to convey best.
If you’re expecting a crime thriller here, there isn’t much of that; if you’re expecting fights, gunfire, and violence, there isn’t much of that either.
I’d like to praise all the actors for their fitting appearances and personalities in this film; if I were to single out actors like Snoop Dogg in his new role, then, to be honest, he’s better suited for roles in comedy films than in serious ones. I’d also like to mention Tyrese Gibson—the guy really got into the role and performed well; he looked pretty good!
Anyway, anyone who’s seen this movie will understand me, but they might disagree with me on some points!
