This is probably one of my favorite entertainment films—everything about it is perfect. At the same time, it’s also the most powerful feminist film I’ve ever seen. Portraying a strong, tough woman through the trope of motherhood is an extremely effective choice. The simplicity of Tarantino’s screenplay and his portrayal of a woman through strength and motherhood put it a full 100 points ahead of many other feminist films in terms of emotional resonance, even though we know almost nothing about Beatrix Keddo— she still feels very alive and multidimensional; there’s absolutely no suggestion that she’s a superficial character. Tarantino drew on the best of Asian martial arts films and 1960s Westerns to present us with such an explosive mix in the two-part *Kill Bill*.
