I love movies starring a young Tom Hanks, back when he was still primarily a comedy actor—before he showed his talent for dramatic roles, which I also enjoy—and I just really love this actor in general. This movie is one of my favorites starring him; it’s a truly excellent film that I happily rewatch every time.
Overall, everything in this movie is top-notch, especially the acting, which features some pretty well-known names: Tom Hanks, Alexander Godunov, and the lesser-known but no less talented actress Shelley Long. The actors gave excellent performances, as far as I can tell from this genre of film.
The humor in the movie is also excellent—there are no below-the-belt jokes or corny one-liners; all the jokes are amusing, funny, and aimed at a wide audience. I found myself laughing at the movie’s humor more than once, even though some people consider it a bit silly. I don’t agree with that.
All in all, if you want to lift your spirits and have a good time—or just see a young Tom Hanks—then I think "The Money Pit" is the movie for you.
