In addition to its intricate plot and original magical tricks (Sandra Bullock alone, with her “special” way of lighting candles and stirring a spoon in a cup of tea, is worth watching), this film offers viewers a glimpse into the fragile yet strong bond between two sisters—Sally and Gillian. For me personally, this is the ideal of female friendship, because they are one and the same. And the sisters serve as a metaphor, an “amplifier,” to make it easier to imagine such a bond in real life.

Well, the details and characters are just beautifully portrayed. Omens, spells, curses, love potions—everything is transported, as if superimposed onto reality, and comes to life.
