Night School 4K 1981

The film "Night School" combines three wonderful genres: mystery, slasher, and giallo. This film should be classified primarily as a giallo (based on the following characteristics: erotic scenes, the killer’s persona, and the revelation of the maniac’s identity and motives only at the end) and a mystery, rather than a slasher, though clear references to this subgenre are quite frequently evident throughout the film.

I wouldn’t say this film is beyond praise, but it’s definitely not bad.

So why did I write above that it’s better not to classify this film as a slasher? Well, consider this: a mandatory element of the genre is the presence of teenagers, and there aren’t any here. Plus, the atmosphere in the film feels more like a mystery than a slasher.

This film has quite a few entertaining twists, but there are also plenty of silly flaws. For example, it was incredibly annoying that all the murders happen off-screen. And why, when the maniac was killing one of the women, did she start squealing like a pig? Many of the victims act foolishly before they die; they don’t even try to defend themselves against the killer in any way.
