The movie blows you away. All at once. The blossoming inhuman beauty of the main character, based on Brigitte Bardot. The candid scenes that reproduce (and also hit the target!) the classics of erotic painting. Pencil and watercolor colors, surreal video sequences, and a sad soundtrack. The ending.
It is important to note that, despite the gloominess of its theme (the tragic story of one of the countless Joan of Arc of the Middle Ages, or, if you will, an ode to the 'inherent sinfulness' of women), the film ends on a life-affirming note. It was shot in the seventies, but there is much more of the free spirit of the sixties than there is of the defeatist reflection on it.
