For a long time, the horror genre has experienced a crisis: they are filming monotonous nonsense. spending fabulous money on it. The Conjuring franchise is not intimidating to me. These are just mystical detective stories / dramas that do not scare or leave an eerie 'aftertaste', but which are pleasant to watch due to the good work of the operator, the retro atmosphere and just adventure plot lines, seasoned with mysticism.
This story tells about obsession: in order to save the younger brother of the bride, the hero asks the demon to let him go and take over his body. He does just that. After that, the guy turns into a killer. The plot itself is based on the investigation of Ed and Lorraine: they are trying to determine where the legs of all this hell that should have cursed the family come from.
There are few frightening and disturbing moments in the film, demonic special effects do not frighten, there is no gloomy and thoughtful immersion. This is a kind of mystical adventure-adventure, from which you don't have to expect too much. Just spending time on two hours of entertainment - yes. Going to a movie hoping to see a hard-hitting horror movie is not.
Since the genre is in deep crisis, I overestimated my estimate a little, I would put it as 5. But since nowadays they are filming outright nonsense, this film looks more winning. First, there are already familiar heroes. Secondly, the actors play quite well. Thirdly, all three films of the franchise are stylish, this cannot be taken away from them.
The director and screenwriter went the way of the artisan: not wanting to surprise the audience, they went the proven way with a completely classical construction of the narrative canvas, with completely classic artistic techniques typical of horror films. And this proven track will lead them to the fact that "The Conjuring 3" will occupy the niche of mid-range films, which, in general, do not cause enthusiasm or disgust.
And the moral of the picture is as follows: do not help anyone selflessly, otherwise you will find yourself in the same situation in which the main character found himself, who, out of the kindness of his soul, wanted to save the boy.
