The short story, the adaptation of which this film is, as far as I remember, had a fairly clear social message. In the film, he went far into the background, and, of course, the running and massacre and other multiple gag, including a happy ending, came to the fore. In fact, the very idea of the cult and the characters are taken from the story.
Technically, the film is performed rather mediocre, but nevertheless, which is important for a horror film, an eerie atmosphere is present. Largely thanks to the ominous soundtrack in the form of children's choral singing, which already in the opening credits tunes in the right mood. It's at least nice to look at the actors - Peter Horton and Linda Hamilton fit well into their images, they want to empathize. The actor with the sonorous John Franklin is also good - he turned out to be an excellent prophet of the corn cult, all so crazy and obsessed.
Bottom line: not a bad representative of old Hollywood horror films, worthy of one viewing. The film has spawned as many as 6 sequels, each worse than the other, so in order to get an idea of the series, it is enough to see this film.
