Scream has taken the youth horror genre to a new level. And in my opinion, this happened precisely because the basis of the film is not a series of senseless murders, but the life of the heroes, into which Death invades, in a terrible mask, hoodie, and with a knife.
The maniac destroys the victim even before her physical death, he plays with her, calling on the phone, knocking on the door ... He disarms his next victim psychologically, brings her fear to its climax, and only then strikes.
But the highlight of the film is not only that. The replicas of the heroes were chosen with extraordinary care, literally predicting subsequent events. Of course, this is already noticeable on subsequent views. But original jokes (available for understanding from the very first time) turn the film from a simple horror film into a black satirical thriller, scary and beautiful at the same time.
In The Scream, real life turns into cinema, and the very art of cinema becomes a murder weapon.
