Japanese detective films are quite specific, especially if they were made in the 1970s. And it's more about the script and the construction of the plot. Where in the European and American detective 'guess who the killer' the solution will be quite simple, then the Japanese (the film is based on the novel by a Japanese writer) plot will be as complicated as possible by side branches, stretching and, so to speak, 'redundancies'. In short, the film fits into the framework of the plot of a sophisticated family revenge, where there is a place for murders with an ax, and decapitation, and insidious poisoning.
Cons: in my opinion, the actors are not justified in replaying, as if the action takes place on the stage of the theater. Director Ichikawa has much more interesting and significant tapes than this one.
