Good slasher, 'Madman'. What's wrong with it, you say? A charmingly ugly maniac? Here. Barefoot savage Marz, who hacked his family to death. Suspense? Not always, but there is. Bloody murders? Yes please - you won't find many movies where the killing takes place in the hood of a car. Music? Yes, the final song of Marz's name is stuck in my head.
In general, this film is not the best of its genre. Yes, the idea of the summer camp murders was not a new one in those days, for such talents as Sean S. Cunningham and Tony Malham had already presented it in 'Friday the 13th' and 'Incineration' respectively. Yes, it may be boring to watch the campy twists and turns at times. Yes, even if not all the actors hold their own and most of them make puzzled faces upon hearing Stanislavsky's expression. But in the overall score it becomes clear that the pluses definitely outweigh the minuses, and we are faced with a worthy but forgotten example of the genre.
