I'm under the impression after the movie "Temptation". Not the events I expected to see, this movie surprised me unspeakably. After watching it, I even became interested in the real story, which was the basis for the film.
The plot introduces the viewer to the young nun Benedetta. The girl is sincere in her faith, she frantically prays day and night, and at a certain point she begins to have religious visions. In them she communicates with the Lord Himself. Stigmata appear on her hands and feet, and her forehead is scarred like a crown of thorns. Mysticism? Is she really Christ's chosen one, or is it a hoax? It gets even more interesting next. A new novice, Bartalameia, a cheerful and bright girl who came from the streets, appears at the convent, and she and Benedetta fall in love with each other.
The movie is quite unusual and leaves behind a strange feeling. It has a lot of merits, but there are also flaws.
On the positive side, first and foremost, we would like to point out the cast. Virginie Efira and Daphne Patakia are delightful. They mesmerize with their beauty and youthfulness, their perfect body shapes. The provocative scenes, of which there are many in the film, are flawlessly executed. Eroticism in its purest form. Beautiful and graceful. Also, the creators did a great job of recreating the life and atmosphere of the VIII century. The decorations and costumes are excellent, you feel the spirit of the Inquisition. The quality of shooting is awesome, no dark screen, the action develops rapidly, the music adds to the atmosphere. It gets creepy at times, scary in places, some moments cause a shock, but all in all it is very interesting, the film captivates right from the first shots. In general, you can get the full range of emotions.
I will also note that the movie is quite provocative. It can cause sincere indignation to certain people with exaggerated moral values. The director made a brave picture using a taboo subject. I am loyal to a lot of things, but one scene just struck me... In general, here already everyone will have to judge for himself.
"Temptation" is a completely atypical movie about nuns. It is neither horror nor mysticism. There is a lot of drama, love and passion in the picture. What you see is thrilling, keeping you in suspense until the credits roll. You cannot predict the ending. You simultaneously believe and doubt. You judge and justify. Understand and bewilder. Yes, director Paul Verhoeven knows how to excite the audience.
