Just the other day the main nominees for Oscar 2022 rumbled. My favorite film, Don't Look Up, was nominated for Best Picture, and I'm going to see the other nine nominees soon. But the hero of this post, the fresh film "House of Gucci," unfortunately flew by and got one measly nomination for makeup, and that's a shame.
So, the movie "House of Gucci" is a colorful, juicy and fascinating movie that tells the story of the tragedy of the creators of the world famous brand, the Gucci family. The heroes of the film are Patricia Reggiani, a girl from a poor family who married the heir of the Gucci house, the shy Maurizio. Although the story of what happened next is known to many, the film does not cease to be intriguing and fascinating.
Everything here is done at a very high level. Great acting by a stellar cast (four Academy Award winners and one nominee among the five main actors), the editing is fantastic, and the makeup artists did a simply tremendous job (try looking for Jared Leto on the poster and you'll see what I mean).
The only thing I think the movie is missing is literally one or two scenes that would explain the reason for the main characters' rift. Why are they fighting? Why did he start cheating? And one more thing: as far as I understood from the angry statements of the characters' real-life relatives, the film was not accurate enough in its portrayal of the Gucci family members (most of the characters, for example, have only one child, though there should be more). I don't have an answer as to why this is the case.
All in all, you can easily go and watch a movie about greed, hatred and hypocrisy, served up by a veteran filmmaker, Ridley Scott. It's certainly not a great film, but it's fascinating.
