In my opinion, the film should have been given another title, something like 'Demons from Beyond' or 'Invasion of the Evil One.
The filmmakers overdid it by giving a generally harmless phenomenon a devilish undertone.
The movie is not a horror, but a couple of episodes in the middle and in the end get the shivers down to your bones, it is not a fantasy, but how to explain revived trees and self-destruction of a house, not a thriller, but the action keeps you in suspense till the very end. There are some melodramatic moments that slip in and out. It's a fiendish mix of different genres, but nothing specific.
The special effects are mesmerizing, but the cheaply drawn 'perfume' only makes you smirk. Maybe the film seemed like something extraordinary for '82, but now it all looks a bit naive.
