Personally, I immediately thought that nothing good would come of it. The movie was so gray and banally boring that you don't have to be a film buff to find it shoddy. But despite all of the above, the picture has a very fat cast: Penelope Cruz, Jessica Chastain, Diane Kruger, Lupita Nyong'o and Sebastian Stan. Yes, it's not uncommon for Oscar-winning actresses to play passable and outright bad movies, but I find it very curious that absolutely none of the first-rate actors, having read the script, noticed the flaws in it.
The plot is as hackneyed as possible - some mercenaries have taken over a dangerous device and a group of women are trying to stop them, thereby saving the world. Supplements this rather ugly picture with entirely flat dialogues, which are so banal here that they provoke gusts of reflexive laughter. The drama in the movie does not work at all, and the reason for that is the lack of character disclosure throughout the film. Yeah, remembering the names of the main characters after watching it is a real challenge!
I don't want to be rude or insult your tastes, but for me 'The 355' is the most ordinary trash picture. Seriously, the movie was watched with my friends, and at almost every moment, we just laughed out loud at the ridiculousness of what was going on. Of course, if you watched the picture alone, or let's say, you and your company are very serious, the tape does not seem funny.
The action here is unpretentious and banal, which is to be expected for a movie with such a plot. Of course, there are exceptions, such as the fights in 'Mission Impossible', but in our case, the stunts of Tom Cruise are like the moon here.
In the end, the director serves us a dish that we have tasted so many times before, only he, made far from the best kind of that very dish, and that is why we will prefer something else than 'The 355'.
