On my way to the theater, I thought I was going to see a well-choreographed action movie with an interesting lead. However, after watching the film, I could hardly suppress my bewilderment and disgust. Astonishment that THIS actually pretends to have a high and deep meaning. Disgust at the shitty editing and the very production of the film's script.
Much has already been said about the editing of this film. People who are positive about this film call it 'evidence of action', but the constantly flickering camera, the constant cropping of shots creates the feeling that the director in an attempt to embrace ALL of his 'genius' of staging battle scenes cut out about an hour of 'unnecessary' moments, and the camera was fixed on a drunken tripod.
Let's move on - the platitudes. They just slip in everywhere in this movie. The cool and brutal Protagonist is there. The kid who turns out to be the main trump card of the Head Asshole is there. And the Head Asshole himself, who at first seems to be 'The nicest man in the world who wouldn't hurt a fly'© - of course, he is present! And of course the final battle with the Bastard.
Illogic - they're there, although not very much. Do you really think that even if he had managed to throw up *pardon the expression* vodka completely in the tank, he would have been able to pass so much? Or the battle with the Villain? In the middle of the battle *quite literally AFTER admitting that the Evil Hero is planning to take over the World* suddenly the battle begins to be broadcast to the world... What do they see? The Protagonist stabs a little girl and then kills the man who gave them so much good. And after that they clap, even though they actually couldn't have realized that the Villain is actually the villain.
Unconvincing. I'll be brief here. Surrogates, in my opinion, looks much nicer and tells you more about the possibility of evoking misery through 'fake realities'. It's more... more elegant. Here it's dirt, shit, snot, blood and meat.
