If you like Dead Space with a touch of Warhammer40k, this is your film. No doubt, at one time it made the strongest impression and could really scare someone. Nowadays the audience is used to much more than that, so don't expect any scares, but it may tickle the nerves and make you think a bit creepy.
A strong cast of actors. Laurence Fishburne and Jason Isaacs look very cool!
In terms of sci-fi fiction, the script does resemble a generic story from the Warhammer40k universe, which will rivet any fan to the screen. That's a definite plus. The visual design style is more reminiscent of Dead Space. The design of the 'Event Horizon' ship is a separate detail I'd like to highlight. It's technological and at the same time very mystical and symbolic. Looking at the nodes and units of the ship it immediately brings to mind religious cults and an affinity more with a temple than a ship.
The local special effects can hardly scare anyone much today, but they are still very well done. The movie is certainly outdated, but it is still very interesting to watch after a long time.
