There are all kinds of movies... This one is unlike any other. Others might remember 'Dangerous Bangkok', 'Bad Boy' and other works of Asian directors on similar themes, but 'Fallen Angels' has a very special atmosphere and charge of something that words can't explain so easily. Art house, in general.
The movie is made for scanty sums of money, but the work of the cameraman turned the picture into a fairy tale, a fascinating spectacle which is interesting to watch even having digressed from the story, which is actually not so much. The film is overflowing with feelings, emotions, looks... Blurring in the frame, slowing down, a kind of blurring of the picture - all these tricks so beloved by Hong Kong film-makers Kar-Wai are just the right thing to do here. Add here great music, expressive characters, spicy atmosphere of cheap eateries, cabarets and slums in general, and the result is a real work of art.
It's not a movie for everyone. But for me, it's just right. The characters' stories are intertwined, they smoke a lot (you can see a smoking cigarette in almost every shot), and it's all done so tastefully, so coolly that you want to watch it again and again.
