The Hunted' is an example of a great thriller on a dramatic foundation, where the harshness of the protagonist's actions can be explained away and you can just enjoy the spectacle. And it is here. Although the movie is quite dark and short, it has one great feature. There are extremely natural and beautiful scenes of the use of cold weapons. Perhaps one of the few thrillers, where the emphasis is not on shooting and chases, although they are also present. But on contact fights with the help of improvised means. Thanks to the excellent staging, they are memorable and each time surprised by how accurately and beautifully staged blows of the main characters.
The plot, in general, is not very original. The apprentice of an old specialist in special forces training went crazy after his experiences in the war, and a little feral. That made him settle in the woods and skillfully kill with a knife anyone who disturbs his peace. However, he also has memories of his family, which is also not in favor of now another killer Aaron. Of course, only a teacher played by Tommy Lee Jones can stop him. And he will do it for real, without any Hollywood spectaculars. You have to look for him in the woods - will be, chase him through the city - no problem. But killing his best student is a little more difficult. But there will be no choice - the death match is one of the best that invented in the genre of thriller drama. It is not easy to find such cruelty and plausibility in Hollywood nowadays.
In general, the movie pleases almost everything. Starting from the non-stressing plot and ending with the appropriate, almost unnoticeable music against the background of what is happening. The movie is dark, tough. And yet extremely fascinating and interesting. Benicio Del Toro is in an unfamiliar role, and here he looks quite different, not the way he is used to be seen in other movies. Almost no emotion, and at the same time his eyes say a lot about his character. Tommy Lee Jones, as always, superbly plays an already elderly, but very lively and tough professional. Their duet in this movie is one of the most memorable. And the knife fights are a must-see - even 'The Taking' has a rest.
