I remember that the first time I watched the sequel to the classic action-comedy '48 Hours', I couldn't get rid of the comparisons with the first part. To be honest, I didn't like it at the time. Everything seemed a bit far-fetched, there was no trace of glitz and glitter, and the fate of the bandits was predestined, that is, that they would accept death, and nothing else was even close to it.
But this is the second time I've rewatched it and I realize that I like the film after all. I like it because even with its 'dry' plot and 'bland' characters, it is still higher than many other hyped action movies made in a comedy vein.
And why, I ask myself once again, should Reggie or Jack have changed. It's still the same cynical but charming criminal and rude, ruthless but honest cop.
And why did the plot have to be fundamentally different from the previous one? Why not tie it in with the first part?
One more thing: the first movie was more of a comedy, and Eddie Murphy in it turned out to be a bombshell effect. However, if he played it identically, who wouldn't say it was already a 'cliché'? A lot of people would. The second part of the adventures of two disparate characters is more action and detective with its own mystery. Maybe that's why gentlemen critics didn't like the picture. But personally, I watched it, am watching it and will continue to watch it.
