Is King Kong alive?
It's strange that there are still no reviews for this movie. King Kong is the first, and therefore the greatest, character of a monster movie. This position obliges him to rise from time to time in remakes and variations.
The 1976 film is much bolder than Peter Jackson's 2005 creation, not to mention the fact that money was tight for the film. Much has been adapted, the idea shifted - the death of a monkey deity is blamed not on show business sharks, but on capitalists - a kind of hippie adaptation against the 'corporations. On top of that is the wonderful Bridges and the gorgeous Jessica Lange in the lead roles. The bald budget of the film did not allow us to shoot many particularly spectacular scenes, but the selection of actors in the film is all right, which allowed us to shift the emphasis on humanity. And very successfully, it seems to me.
Nineteen years later, Jackson will simply release a copy of the 1933 film with improved special effects. And he'll cast a pathetic Adrien Brody and a dumbass Jack Black in the lead roles. Naomi Watts, of course, okay, but it's clearly not her best role, especially compared to Lange she nervously smoking.
