Surprisingly, not many people have heard of this film. But it's a very worthy film.
The story of a small man in a small town in one of America's states. The story of a good man, told without gushing, unhurriedly and slowly, but with love.
I feel like saying thank you to director Robert Benton for reminding us that there are people like Sally. And even if Paul Newman's character is not perfect (who could call a man who left his wife and little kid perfect?), he shows that you should value friendship, that it's better late than never, but still find a common language with your son and grandson and that a father's home is the most pleasant place for a man.
Also in the movie is Bruce Willis, who won't pay Sally for her injured knee, Melanie Griffith, who is cheated on by her husband with his secretary, the sweet old lady landlady and many others.
It's impossible not to mention the humor of the film. The jokes are very funny and, understandably, without any 'below the belt' theme.
Bottom line: a pleasant movie, which one desires to watch again.
