Maybe I'm the only one...but I didn't like the movie Ringu. I didn't watch it in the evening, but in the afternoon by myself. After reading a lot of good reviews of this movie I thought it was the scariest horror movie ever. But it wasn't... The horror movie didn't scare me at all, didn't draw me in, it wasn't interesting to watch at all.
There is a lot of tedious talk and not much action in the movie and there is no atmosphere to keep you in suspense. Maybe I should have seen it before American Call, maybe I would have had some sensations.
The movie is dark and gloomy, you can't see anything, and that very famous videotape had an incomprehensible recording on it. The American call, unlike the Japanese one, has a lot of interesting investigations and the essence of the film is fully revealed, while in this horror flick everything remains unclear. The scene when the girl climbed out of the TV set was much scarier in the American ringtone and the whole movie was accompanied by very scary music, and there was no music in this ringtone at all. The only good thing is that they gave a good idea with the videotape, after watching it the bell rings and seven days later a girl comes out of the TV well behind you and you die with a very scary expression on your face.
