Vittorio Rombaldi, who also worked with Umberto Lenzi on the slasher 'Nightmare Beach' (only as a screenwriter), made a rather average film. This is due to his inexperience as a director in the 'horror' genre.
Despite the fact that the script was written by Umberto Lenzi, a master of the Italian branch of the horror genre, the movie came out flat. The movie clearly lacked spice. There is so little blood that we cannot even believe that the movie was made by Italians. Of course, the excess of gory scenes is sometimes detrimental to the movie, too, but in this case, it would have been better transformed if it were more violent. Therefore, there are few bright and memorable moments in this movie.
The acting is pretty good and the film is as easy and effortless to watch as many other horror flicks of the 80s. The atmosphere of those years is not bad. Of the Rombaldi family, Carlo Rombaldi did the best job. Indeed, the quality work on the makeup here is noticeable. But most of all I was pleased with the musical accompaniment, and this is a credit to Claudio Simonetti - a talented composer, creator of the soundtrack for such masterpieces of Italian horror as 'Suspiria', 'Shiver', 'Demons', as well as the picture 'Dawn of the Dead' and many other horror films.
