Of course, this film by Robert Enrico is nothing more than a reflection of the magnificent story of Roberto La Rocca. Incidentally, he starred in it twice, and it, like the story of ‘HO’, was written by José Giovanni. But instead of Jean Becker's harsh style, we get a boring and unfinished crime story. The former racer, played by Belmondo, will exquisitely, but not very successfully, explore new horizons in his career—he will become a gangster. Even if this gangster is extremely charming.
The rest of the plot is nothing more than an attempt to keep the viewer engaged and prevent them from questioning the genre promised on the poster and the quality of the film. Belmondo tries to do something, but the plot itself moves towards an inevitable moral. A happy ending here would be as surprising as, for example, in Brian De Palma's Carlito's Way. All this together evokes incredible boredom. And the bright advances implied by the presence of Belmondo's name in the credits are not justified at all. Racing, guns, fights, crimes - everything is mixed together in a single shake-up.
