What horror movies would you say are the scariest? To answer this question honestly is to find out what we are afraid of. After all, even a person who isn't scared by horror movies can't be called fearless. Perhaps he is just a realist, and is afraid of something real, not amorphous spirits.
That's a statement, although it's not entirely true. My mom thinks horror movies about dolls are the scariest, but that doesn't mean she's afraid of dolls.
There's just something demonic about dolls. It's like a human being, but empty inside, and that inner emptiness can be occupied by any uninvited guest, any demon or spirit. Apparently, that's roughly what our ancestors thought. We, as rational people, reject these delusions, but we remain afraid, unconsciously.
'Dead Silence' is by far my first and last acquaintance with the work of Malaysian James Wan. The 'Saw' stories somehow don't appeal to me. What attracted me to this well-crafted, but to the test a little corny horror film.
The picture itself is well made, the atmosphere and horror build-up are appropriate, the ending is unexpected, which also pleases. Yes, the film is worth watching for the sake of it. Because it is quite a coherent story about a ventriloquist ghost and her puppets.
I personally liked the ban on screaming, though. Have you ever noticed that in American and now other movies, when something happens, the characters scream the incredibly hackneyed phrase 'No!' at the top of their lungs. And how it pisses me off, who knew? I'd kill anyone who yells it from a screen myself!
